Graduate Support Network

MWH graduates will have a solid support network established for them. The network includes a buddy, a supervisor/manager, a mentor and the Graduate Recruitment Coordinator.

We invest significantly in graduate employment opportunities, and it is our corporate responsibility to ensure that you, our graduate, has the best possible start as an emerging professional.

Buddies
As a new graduate you have the opportunity to be assigned a buddy when you commence with MWH. Your buddy will be there to help you settle into working life at MWH and will be able to assist you with:

  • Finding your way around the office/s and locating amenities and services
  • Answering those “first day” and “first week” questions that you may feel nervous asking
  • Introducing you to your peers
  • Navigating the surrounding local area (eg. finding a place for lunch)
Buddies are a great first step to your new career with MWH.

Supervisors/Managers
Graduates will be assigned to a supervisor or manager who will be an active participant in your career and will ensure you are provided with support to develop your skills and knowledge of MWH and the projects you are working on.

By playing a major part in your career development they will:

  • Help in the transition from university to work
  • Set expectations for standards of work and behaviour
  • Be a role model
  • Answer questions on how tasks and projects fit into the bigger picture of how MWH operates
  • Act as a coach and provide feedback
  • Provide guidance in developing training activities
  • Assess and evaluate performance
Mentors
A mentor may be assigned to you as a new graduate. Mentors will be members from across the business who have the knowledge and experience to provide guidance, support and encouragement by:

  • Acting as a role model while helping you to settle into the organisation
  • Provide you with career advice and introduce you to key people
  • Provide a broader perspective on cultural, internal and external political issues affecting MWH
  • Provide guidance on key professional skills and attributes such as communication, time management, ethics etc.
  • Participate in an ongoing assessment of your progress throughout your first day
  • Meet with you at regular intervals
  • Provide a safe and confidential atmosphere for you to discuss issues of concern eg what your goals and aspirations are and how best to achieve them, in-house workplace matters and marketing yourself for future promotional opportunities
  • Act as a point of stability as you start your career
  • Introduce you to a network of contacts
  • Provide an understanding of the role of management and leaders within MWH
  • Assist in developing your people and project management skills
  • Develop your awareness of MWH and its strategic plan and direction, embrace MWH core values, understand policies, client service, quality and continuous improvement
  • Assist in developing professional competencies
Graduate Recruitment Coordinator
From your initial meeting at the careers fair to submitting your online application to the graduate selection process and finally to meeting you on your first day, the recruitment coordinator in your state plays a very significant part in your new career with MWH. They have provided a structured plan to help you be successful in your selection as an MWH graduate.

They will be pivotal in your first few days, weeks and months at MWH.

Particularly the first two days of your employment with MWH will include formal induction training which will include:

  • Introduction to your buddy, supervisor, mentor and fellow graduates
  • Introduction to MWH
  • Office tour
  • Introduction to the senior members of the team in your office
  • Completion of paperwork associated with your employment
  • Introduction to the team members in your work area
  • Making your first day enjoyable

The induction program is a key part of MWH’s new employee support framework.

The program encompasses tools and guides to assist you with being a successful graduate at MWH.
